Netherlands Minister of Finance: Secrecy of Air France-KLM share purchase was a 'judgement call'

11 March, 2019

Netherlands' Minister of Finance Wopke Hoekstra said a decision not to inform the Tweede Kamer (House of Representatives) of its plan to make a EUR744 million acquisition of a 14% stake in Air France-KLM was a "judgement call", and there was no ideal way to involve the parliament when "considering all the pluses and minuses" involved (NL Times, 06-Mar-2019). As previously reported by CAPA, sections of the Dutch Parliament have objected to the purchase and have raised questions about the necessity of investment and why the decision to take the shareholding was kept secret.
