KLM encouraging rail use on short haul city pairs

22 May, 2019

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines Netherlands CEO Harm Kreulen said the carrier wants to encourage travel by rail on short haul city pairs (luchtvaartnieuws.nl, 22-May-2019). "We believe the number of [short haul] flights can be reduced", Mr Kreulen said, adding airline/rail cooperation along a passenger's journey furthers a "seamless travel experience". He argued however that rail timetables should improve coordination with KLM's network at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. "Business travellers want to leave from Schiphol between 06:00 and 07:00... it won't work if the train does not arrive at Schiphol until 09:00", he continued.
