Antigua and Barbuda to invest in LIAT, drops plan to acquire Barbados share in LIAT

11 October, 2019

Antigua and Barbuda reportedly gave up plans to acquire Barbados' share in LIAT, and plans instead to invest directly in the carrier (Barbados Today/Antigua Observer, 08/10-Oct-2019). Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne stated that the investment is subject to the approval of other shareholder governments, adding: "I don't see why they should stop us from investing directly… LIAT needs the cash". Antigua and Barbuda has a XCD40 million (USD14.8 million) loan commitment from ALBA Bank, available to invest in LIAT.
