Zleep Hotels to debut in Southern Europe with new Madrid airport property

29 December, 2019

Danish hotel chain Zleep Hotels is to make its debut in Southern Europe with its German co-owner, Deutsche Hospitality confirming plans for the first Zleep property on Spanish soil. The Zleep Hotel Madrid Airport will open in 2021 close to the capital's international airport and the Principe Felipe Congress Centre, featuring 280 rooms.

The Zleep Hotels brand has grown since its inception in 2003 to become a well-known, successful hotel brand across Scandinavia, but expansion into other regions where the brand is not currently recognised represents a significant growth.

It is being driven by Deutsche Hospitality which acquired Zleep Hotels at the start of 2019, adding the economy segment brand to the group's portfolio. Twelve hotels in Denmark and Sweden are currently part of the Zleep Hotels portfolio and further properties are at the planning stage.

"For Deutsche Hospitality, Spain is a highly attractive market," says Thomas Willms, CEO, Deutsche Hospitality, "We see further potential here not only for our resort hotels, but especially for hotels in the business and economy sectors. With Zleep we have the ideal entry-level product into our brand world, offering quality, service and design at an affordable price."

The Madrid airport property's location means it will be popular for business travellers using the airport and congress centre. "We offer price-conscious holidaymakers and business travellers who value design, quality and sustainability an exciting hotel offer in the Spanish capital. We are convinced that the Zleep community will find many new fans," says Robert Boller, managing director Zleep Hotel GmbH.

All the signs indicate that there is more growth to come. Deutsche Hospitality currently has plans in the pipeline to open 30 further hotels under its various brands both in Germany and abroad. These include two further Zleep properties in 2020.

On 01-Apr-2020 the Zleep Hotel Copenhagen Arena will open in Orestad on Amager in Denmark's capital city. The hotel will have 211 rooms and an attractive location near Royal Arena, Fields and Orestad Metro. Meanwuile, on 01-Jul-2020 Zleep Hotel Lyngby will open along the Helsingor highway, close to the Technical University of Denmark. It will have 112 rooms, 34 of which are being built and decorated as long stay rooms. These will be 50% larger than a regular room and will also have private kitchens.

The portfolio of Deutsche Hospitality currently includes almost 150 hotels on three continents. Alongside Zleep, it brings together four other separate hotel brands under a single umbrella. These comprise Steigenberger Hotels & Resorts, which has 60 hotels housed in historic traditional buildings and lively city residences; MAXX by Steigenberger, a new and charismatic concept which places the focus on the essential; Jaz in the City branded hotels, which reflect metropolitan lifestyle; and IntercityHotel, which offers more than 40 upper mid-range urban hotels, all of which are located within easy walking distance of railway stations or airports.
