The Blue Swan Daily brings you a roundup of the most thought-provoking and interesting comments from those industry leaders in the know.
AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes on Indonesia’s new airfare regulations:
“My advice is not to over regulate… The regulation can kill the business”.
Finnair CEO Topi Manner:
- “We have an all Airbus fleet, so we are observing the situation with Boeing from the outside”, adding: “When I look at the work of regulators around safety, I predominantly have the experience of European regulators, and I think they are as focused as ever on safety. I think the regulatory demand and regulatory scrutiny is definitely the way it should be. When it comes the fundamental question of is there enough focus on safety in this industry, my take on this is that definitely there is”.
- “We are a midsize airline and partnerships are a possibility for an airline like us to seek scale beyond our size. The collaboration that we have with [American Airlines] in terms of sales and distribution in the US is very important for us”.
Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary responded to environmental campaigns discouraging Europeans from travelling by air:
“We are sensitive to the criticism that we are getting a free ride on the environment because frankly it is not true… We have a very good case to push back against these NGOs like the ‘flight shame’ movement because actually this is an industry that is performing remarkably well and meeting its obligations towards a greener, cleaner planet”.
