Wizz Air criticises environmental impact of business class travel

15 November, 2019

Wizz Air CEO József Váradi proposed to ban business class service for travel under five hours, arguing business class passengers account for double the carbon footprint of economy class passengers (Bloomberg/bbj.hu/ttgmedia.com/economic.bg/thenational.scot/telegraph.co.uk, 13/14-Nov-2019). Mr Váradi noted the legacy carrier focus on business class seats and connecting services results in inefficiencies and a negative environmental impact. Mr Váradi said Wizz Air's aircraft emit 50g of carbon per passenger kilometre, compared to 90g per passenger kilometre for network carriers. The carrier plans to reduce emissions by a further 30% within 10 years.
