WestJet wants to match transborder, trans Atlantic marketshare with domestic: CEO

12 February, 2020

WestJet CEO Ed Sims said the carrier sees a "huge opportunity" to have its transborder and trans Atlantic share "lifted to those levels of domestic" once it is acquired by Onex (Skies Mag, 11-Feb-2020). Mr Sims stated: "We're now carrying one in three Canadians on our domestic services, and we carry a significantly lower share of Canadians on transborder services and lower again on trans Atlantic". He also said the carrier is now operating a "more business and more premium-oriented" network, adding: "We now carry what I would call a premium economy rather than a business-style service on board all of our NGs, as well as the new MAXs". According to CAPA's WestJet profile, 39.9% of WestJet's seats are operated internationally, while 60.1% are operated domestically.
