WestJet 'trying to keep a new player out of the marketplace': Flair Airlines president and CEO

14 December, 2018

Flair Airlines president and CEO Jim Scott identified WestJet and Swoop as using predatory pricing, adding WestJet is "trying to keep a new player out of the marketplace" (The Canadian Press, 13-Dec-2018). As previously reported by CAPA, the Canadian Competition Bureau is investigating the "anti-competitive pricing practices". Canada's interim commissioner of competition Matthew Boswell stated the two airlines are "engaging in predatory anti-competitive practices" by "significantly decreasing" the price of passenger tickets "to a level that appears to be below their avoidable costs".
