WestJet to increase schedule by 10% in Aug-2020, operate more than 200 daily services

13 July, 2020

WestJet announced (13-Jul-2020) plans to operate more than 200 daily services to 48 destinations across its network, effective 15-Jul-2020 to 04-Sep-2020. Destinations will include 39 points in Canada, five in the US, two in Europe, one in the Caribbean and one in Mexico. WestJet's schedule for Aug-2020 will be up approximately 10% compared to Jul-2020, but down 75% year-on-year. WestJet CCO Arved von zur Muehlen stated: "While an increase in flying is a positive sign, we are prudently monitoring our guests loads to ensure we are managing our airline and the health of our guests and crew responsibly". Of services to be operated during this period, WestJet will reintroduce Boeing 787 service from Calgary to London Gatwick and Paris from 20-Aug-2020, and resume weekly service to Montego Bay. Mr von zur Muehlen also called for standardisation of intra provincial travel advice, as he mentioned existing travel restrictions and quarantine periods are "severely limiting Canada's economic recovery and putting hundreds of thousands of jobs in our critical industry at risk".
