Western Sydney Airport community update, construction phase to support 11,346 jobs

Western Sydney Airport Co (WSA Co) published (Nov-2017) a community update. Highlights include:

  • Since WSA Co's establishment in Aug-2017, the company has actively engaged in recruiting a leadership team;
  • Western Sydney Airport to be delivered by 2026;
  • Head office opened in 20-Nov-2017, located in the Liverpool CBD;
  • Ongoing consultation with Aboriginal stakeholders;
  • Tender opportunities and job vacancies are being advertised, including tenders for geotechnical investigation and land survey services already released to market. Further tenders are to be released in coming months;
  • Jobs creation:
    • Supporting up to 11,346 jobs during construction;
    • Up to 8730 direct onsite jobs by 2031;
    • Up to 4400 business park jobs by 2031;
    • Up to 14,780 jobs in surrounding by 2031.

Australia's Minister for Urban Infrastructure Paul Fletcher commented: "This is an exciting time for Western Sydney with significant investment in the region, including the Australian Government's investment of up to AUD5.3 billion (USD4 billion) to build the airport, and the AUD3.6 billion (USD2.7 billion) to upgrade the region's roads under the Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan".
