Wallonia Govt approves building permit for South Charleroi Airport runway extension

    Belgium‘s Government of Wallonia approved a building permit submitted by Société Wallonne des Aéroports (SOWAER) for extension of Brussels South Charleroi Airport runway (l’Avenir/Belga, 25-Oct-2018). SOWAER filed in Aug-2018 for permission to extend the runway from 2550m to 3200m. Works are expected to begin in 2021. As previously reported by CAPA, SOWAER plans to invest around EUR30 million for the project. The extension project is expected to create 1600 jobs and see the airport handle 10 million passengers p/a by 2026.
