Volaris-Viva Aerobus merger could make sense, in a hypothetical scenario

19 March, 2020

CAPA - Centre for Aviation, in a report entitled: 'Mexico's domestic aviation market: time for "consolidation"?', stated (15-Mar-2020) there are some operators in Mexico's market that could pair well as a combined entity, but it is unlikely that consolidation will occur in the foreseeable future. Under a hypothetical scenario, a merger between Volaris and Viva Aerobus could make sense. Neither Volaris nor Viva Aerobus have stated that they have any intent of seeking to merge with another airline. Both airlines are ULCCs, target bus and VFR traffic and operate respective fleets of A320ceos and A320neos. Viva Aerobus also targets business travellers from small and medium enterprises.
