VivaAerobus urges US DoT to hold Delta/Aeromexico to its joint venture 'commitments'

27 March, 2018

VivaAerobus responded (27-Mar-2018) to Delta Air Lines and Aeromexico's reply, claiming they are trying to "exempt" themselves from their commitments to the US Department of Transportation (DoT). As previously reported by CAPA, Delta and Aeromexico are engaging in a "quid pro quo" with the agency to receive antitrust immunity for their joint venture in the cross border US-Mexico market. VivaAerobus urged the department to "reject their flimsy excuses" and require the airlines to follow through with their "commitment to provide Viva the only slot it needs at JFK". The carrier explained it had previously exhausted all reasonable efforts to obtain slots, as required, and pointed out it had applied for slots at New York JFK in a timely manner, according to DoT requirements.
