Virgin Australia restructures Boeing 737 MAX deliveries

Virgin Australia reported (30-Apr-2019) it will restructure its Boeing 737 MAX deliveries and convert 15 of its 737 MAX 8 orders to the 737 MAX 10. The airline plans to take delivery of its first 737 MAX 10 aircraft in 2021 with the first 737 MAX 8 scheduled to arrive in 2025. According to the CAPA Fleet Database, Virgin Australia previously held 30 737 MAX 8 aircraft on order, with delivery to begin in Nov-2019. Virgin Australia Group CEO and managing director Paul Scurrah noted the restructure of the aircraft deliveries will result “in a number of positive commercial benefits for the Group. This includes a significant deferral of capital expenditure by extending the use of existing aircraft given the relatively young age of our fleet along with providing the Group earlier access to the superior operational economics of the MAX 10 aircraft”.
