Virgin Australia plans Brisbane-Alice Springs service

Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) welcomed (19-Mar-2018) confirmation from Virgin Australia that the airline will commence twice weekly return service between Brisbane and Alice Springs from 19-Jun-2018, operating under a wet lease agreement with Alliance Airlines with Alliance's Fokker 100 and Fokker 70 fleet of aircraft. BAC CEO and MD Julieanne Alroe stated Brisbane Airport is "Australia's most domestically connected airport". She also noted that traffic from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch in New Zealand, the US and Singapore, and to Indonesia making up six of the top 10 markets connecting via Brisbane to/from Alice Springs. Services between Brisbane and Rockhampton, currently operated by Alliance's Fokker 100 fleet, will also benefit with Virgin Australia upgrading two existing return flights to its Boeing 737 aircraft, adding over 300 seats per week in to the region.
