Virgin Australia believes ‘the future is here’

8 December, 2017

Virgin Australia's new group executive Rob Sharp wants you to know 'the future is here' and Virgin is leading the way. With the launch of a new app imminent and the airline already taking advantage of chatbot technology and artificial intelligence Virgin Australia is in proving innovation is here.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 2017 ACTE-CAPA Global Conference Sydney, Mr Sharp says that while people believe technology is always "down the track, the reality is that a lot of it is already here. We are in a really changing environment and we're living it right now."

The next step in Virgin Australia's technology roadmap is the launch of new app in early 2018. Mr Sharp admits the current app is a "little clunky" as it is an older generation tool. The airline listened to its customers, who asked for more real time information, and are almost ready to launch the app. "There's a big step change happening here. We are moving onto some new platforms and we'll be launching during first quarter of 2018. Our customers will see a massive difference. It won't be just one big bang but we will continue to develop it over the coming months." According to Virgin Australia, about 40% of their business traffic actually use their apps regularly which means the customer experience will be enhanced greatly.
