US DoT enforces refunds by airlines for eligible passengers

    US Department of Transportation (DoT) issued (03-Apr-2020) an enforcement notice, clarifying that US and foreign carriers are still obligated to provide prompt refunds to passengers for cancelled or significantly changed frequencies to, within or from the US. The DoT has received an increased number of complaints and inquiries from passengers regarding cancellations, with many describing airlines which said passengers would receive vouchers or credits for future travel. The DoT advised it will allow carriers to become compliant before taking further action against them, due to the unprecedented effects of coronavirus on air travel demand, but noted it will still take action as necessary.
