US Consul General Osaka-Kobe Karen Kelley stated several US carriers are considering launching new routes between the US and western Japan, adding that she expects the number of tourists to increase as a result of improved connectivity between the two regions (Sankei Shimbun, 25-Feb-2018). Ms Kelley stated: "Direct flights from US to Kansai and other airports in western Japan are essential to promote the traffic and tourism... The more direct flights we have, the easier become the access to Kansai region".
