US and Qatar delegations reach agreement addressing concerns on subsidised competition, transparency

30 January, 2018

US and Qatar delegations reached (30-Jan-2018) a set of understandings to address concerns raised by US carriers regarding subsidised competition and an alleged lack of transparency. Under the agreement, Qatari and US airlines will be required to issue public annual reports with financial statements audited externally, and publicly disclose significant new transactions with state-owned enterprises within the next two years. Airlines must also take steps to ensure that such transactions are based on commercial terms. The two countries will continue to maintain an open skies framework, which "continues to yield real benefits". Officials plan to meet again bilaterally in 2019 to discuss progress.
