United Airlines considers launching San Francisco-Guangzhou service, establishing JV with Air China

United Airlines plans to launch San Francisco-Guangzhou service and other new Chinese routes within the next decade under a plan to form a JV with Air China (Forbes, 13-Jun-2019). United Airlines MD Greater China and Korea Walter Dias said: "Guangzhou continues to grow and transform itself from what it was even five years ago... It's not tomorrow and it's not next year but at some time in the future I would not be surprised to see us with a nonstop service from San Francisco". United Airlines originally planned to launch San Francisco-Guangzhou service in 2008 but cancelled the route before launch, with Mr Dias describing it as "a victim of the global economic crisis".
