UAE and US close to reaching agreement on open skies debate: report

16 April, 2018

UAE and US governments are reportedly close to an agreement to resolve the debate surrounding open skies policies and alleged government subsidies, similar to an agreement reached with Qatar earlier in 2018 (Gulf News, 13-Apr-2018). Under the deal's reported terms, Emirates and Etihad Airways will reportedly open their accounting books voluntarily and confirm they do not have plans to add extra capacity to the US from markets outside of the UAE. The US State Department said there is "nothing to report at this time" although "discussions are ongoing".
