TUIfly MD predicts 'tough summer' in 2019 in light of 737 MAX grounding

9 April, 2019

TUIfly MD Oliver Lackmann predicted a "tough summer" in 2019 due to Boeing 737 MAX groundings (Routes Online/ATW Online, 09-Apr-2019). He said the carrier will have 38 aircraft in its fleet in summer 2019 if 737 MAXs remain grounded, two more than in summer 2018. Mr Lackmann also noted 737 MAXs will likely be redeployed on longer medium haul routes such as Cape Verde and the Canary Islands upon reentry into service due to lower fuel consumption compared with 737NGs. "If everything goes well, we will maybe see the MAX fly again in July", he concluded.
