TTF welcomes tourism spending under NT Government's FY2019 budget

2 May, 2018

Tourism & Transport Forum Australia (TTF) CEO Margy Osmond welcomed (02-May-2018) a commitment by the Northern Territory (NT) Government to invest in the tourism sector under its FY2018/19 budget. Ms Osmond said despite the bleak fiscal outlook, the NT Government's investment in the visitor economy acknowledged tourism as an effective and sustainable way to transition from the mining economy. The NT Government recognised the potential for tourism to be the next key long term economic driver of the NT economy with continuing strong investment in the sector. Through the AUD103 million (USD77.2 million) 'Turbocharging Tourism' package announced in FY2017/18 and continuing into FY2018/19, AUD26.6 million (USD19.9 million) will be invested to deliver more targeted marketing campaigns and secure business events. TTF also welcomed an AUD52.5 million (USD39.4 million) commitment to establish new tourism infrastructure, AUD24.5 million (USD18.4 million) to develop and enhance the existing festival programme and close to AUD35 million (USD26.2 million) to rejuvenate Darwin and Alice Springs' town centres.
