Tourism Council Western Australia estimates industry has lost USD2bn due to COVID-19

Tourism Council Western Australia (TCWA) reported (23-Apr-2020) the state's tourism industry has lost AUD3.1 billion (USD2 billion) and over 30,000 jobs due to the cancellation of six months of bookings. TCWA conducted a survey finding 70% of operators have insufficient cash to pay employees and service costs. Around half of the businesses are unable to access the JobKeeper wage subsidy, either due to the seasonal nature of their business or not having enough cash to pay employees in advance of receiving the subsidy.
