Tonga Prime Minister: Competition is the only option to reduce high domestic fares

5 June, 2017

Tonga Prime Minister Akilisi Pohiva believes there are only two options to assist with reducing expensive domestic airfares to the country's outer-islands, the introduction of another carrier to compete in the market or the Government to create its own airline to provide cheaper fares (Tonga Broadcasting Commission, 06-Jun-2017). Tonga Airways applied to the Government for a licence to operate domestically and is currently awaiting approval.
