Tonga Prime Minister: Competition is the only option to reduce high domestic fares

Tonga Prime Minister Akilisi Pohiva believes there are only two options to assist with reducing expensive domestic airfares to the country’s outer-islands, the introduction of another carrier to compete in the market or the Government to create its own airline to provide cheaper fares (Tonga Broadcasting Commission, 06-Jun-2017). Tonga Airways has applied to the Government for a licence to operate domestically and is currently awaiting approval.
