WSA Co seeks tender for geotechnical investigation services on Western Sydney Airport project
WSA Co released (10-Oct-2017) a request for tender for the provision of geotechnical investigation services for Western Sydney Airport development project. WSA Co is seeking suitably skilled and experience geotechnical engineering consultants to conduct geotechnical investigation on the proposed site which will help prepare the reference design for Stage 1 works. Tender submission closes on 31-Oct-2017. WSA Co hopes to award the contract on or around 11-Dec-2017 and have works completed by 16-Mar-2018.
New South Wales Transport Minister: No Western Sydney Airport rail link before Metro West completion
New South Wales Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance stated the State Government will not commit to a rail link for the planned Western Sydney Airport until the Metro West line is completed (07-Oct-2017). Mr Constance said: "We have to build Metro West first before they build any additional line around the airport because feeding people into an already congested line would be a disaster". The airport is due to be operation in 2026 and Metro West is due for completion by 2030.
Australian government investing USD4.2bn in company to build new Western Sydney Airport
Australia's Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester announced (04-Oct-2017) the Australian Federal Government is investing with a "once in a generation decision" to develop the Western Sydney Airport at Badgerys Creek, which will "benefit domestic travellers from the region and boost tourism opportunities". The Federal Government has established the WSA Co with an investment of AUD5.3 billion (USD4.2 billion) in equity to build the airport.
Australia Minister for Urban Infrastructure: FOWSA may open meetings to public
Australia Minister for Urban Infrastructure Paul Fletcher stated the Forum on Western Sydney Airport (FOWSA) will consider allowing the public to attend parts of their meetings to encourage more public contributions (25-Sep-2017). FOWSA is a community consultation mechanism in the lead up to the new Western Sydney Airport commencing operations in 2026. Mr Fletcher stated he expects the airport to handle international traffic "from day one", on routes from Asia.
