The Americas Global Capacity Recap – August 2018

In this week’s exclusive Blue Swan Daily Infographic, we take a closer look at the growing aviation market by focusing on global capacity. In Aug-2018, global capacity increased 5.6% year-on-year and is up by 750,000 seats from Jul-2018. Over the past 12 months:

  • 17 country pairs were connected for the first time;
  • Globally, the Russia-Saudi Arabia market added the most capacity, with the addition of 12,600 seats;
  • 371 new airport pairs were connected for the first time;
  • Kolkata-Jorhat and Osaka Kansai-Kushiro routes stood out, both adding 11,160 new seats.

The Americas will see a 4.2% year-on-year increase in seat capacity in Aug-2018, and a decrease of 1.2% from Jul-2018.

39.5% of flights were operated by a non-alliance airline, followed by oneworld with 20.9% and Star Alliance with 21.2%. 111 new airport pairs were launched in Aug-2018 with 131,000 seats.
