Tamworth Airport could become an international airfreight hub: Mayor

Tamworth Regional Council Mayor Col Murray said Tamworth Airport has the potential to serve as an international air cargo hub for northern New South Wales (The Northern Daily Leader, 06-Dec-2019). The airport would require a runway extension and the development of cold storage, warehousing, distribution systems and quarantine facilities to handle exports of fresh produce to markets such as Hong Kong. Mr Murray said: "We've had many discussions with supermarket chains and markets in places like Hong Kong, and there is a high value placed on fresh Australian produce".
