Taiwan Tourism Bureau reported inbound tourism revenue declined 7.9% year-on-year to USD12.3 billion in 2017, citing a decline in the consumption power of tourists from mainland China and Japan (CNA, 04-Jul-2018). Taiwan received record 10.7 million foreign visitors in 2017, with visitors from China and Japan reaching 2.7 million and 1.9 million, respectively, but the average daily spending by Chinese tourists declined by USD14.05 per person while Japanese tourist spending declined by USD27.37. Visitors’ daily spending last year was highest among Japanese tourists, averaging USD214.05, followed by South Korea(USD194.58), China (USD184.38), Hong Kong/Macau (USD183.92) and the US (USD155.67).
