Sydney Airport growth driven by Chinese 'growth engine', expects slower growth in 2019

Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport CEO Geoff Culbert, addressing shareholders at the company's AGM, said the airport expects slower passenger growth in 2019 (Australian Aviation/Airline Geeks, 28-May-2019). Mr Culbert said: "It is likely that 2019 will see more subdued growth in passengers across the board - we have seen that in the first four months of this year - but to a certain extent this was to be expected when we have just come off a number of years of extraordinary growth". Commenting on China as the airport's "growth engine" and the airport's record 44.4 million passengers handled in 2018, Mr Culbert added: "The base number gets higher every year, and the bar gets raised every year. But we still remain confident about the growth profile of the aero business in the medium and longer term".
