Stuttgart Airport to use coronavirus downtime for runway rehabilitation works

Stuttgart Airport announced (02-Apr-2020) plans to undertake runway resurfacing and rehabilitation works from 06-Apr-2020 to mid Jun-2020. Works will be carried out in phases and were brought forward in light of the coronavirus outbreak. Phase one will cover resurfacing from 06-Apr-2020 to 22-Apr-2020, with all operations suspended during the period. Phase two will cover rehabilitation of a section of the runway from 23-Apr-2020 to 20-May-2020, with a 1965m section available for use for cargo and emergency movements. From 21-May-2020 to 17-Jun-2020, an additional section will be renewed, with 2475m of runway length available. The runway will resume normal operations on 18-Jun-2020 with the full 3345m length.
