SriLankan Airlines CEO Suren Ratwatte stated the carrier would explore more opportunities in Australia with new direct service to destinations including Sydney (LBO, 13-Feb-2018). Mr Ratwatte said daily Colombo-Melbourne service is witnessing strong traffic, with the route already profitable within a period of six months. Mr Ratwatte stated: "We are delighted to fulfil a long-felt need for a direct flight from Colombo to Melbourne... Following the success of this strategic decision, we will explore opportunities, for example, between Colombo and Sydney and other destinations in Australia".
