Sri Lanka targeting four million tourist arrivals by 2020: Tourism Minister

    Sri Lanka‘s Tourism Minister John Amaratunga stated the country is targeting the arrival of four million tourists p/a by 2020, which will drive USD7 billion in revenue and generate 600,000 direct employments (Daily News, 13-Sep-2018). Mr Amaratunga said the government is working towards making tourism the “leading revenue generator”, although this means “we must also be conscious of not killing the goose that lays the golden egg in the process of managing our tourism resources”. Sri Lanka will focus on engaging with local communities to ensure a “sustainable promotion of potential sectors while increasing the opportunities for social contacts”, he added.
