CAPA: Spirit Airlines to focus on 'network adjustments and optimisation' in 2020

18 February, 2020

CAPA - Centre for Aviation, in a report entitled: 'Spirit Airlines pivots its network strategy in 2020', stated (16-Feb-2020) Spirit Airlines plans to take a pause in new route expansions during 2020, though it will continue to provide "network adjustments and optimisation". The carrier has launched 68 routes since 1Q2019 and exited another 15, "a pretty good add to remove ratio for us", according to chief commercial officer Matt Klein. Increased frequencies will account for two thirds of Spirit's growth in 2020, while new routes will account for 15%. Spirit's move to pause new market growth is a logical choice that will allow it the opportunity to instead work on developing and maturing points of strength. [more - CAPA Analysis]
