Spirit Airlines to 'err on the side of conservatism', expects slight travel rebound in summer: CCO

11 May, 2020

Spirit Airlines chief commercial officer (CCO) Matt Klein said the carrier expects travel demand will "rebound a bit" in summer 2020, though this expected growth will remain "significantly lower than last year" (Seeking Alpha, 07-May-2020). Spirit is "looking to add a little flying back to June such that it is only a 90% cut" in capacity, he noted, adding there could be further capacity additions later in Jun-2020, provided "trends improve in the coming weeks". Mr Klein mentioned the carrier will "err on the side of conservatism for now", which may result in its schedule for summer 2020 being "under optimised to an extent if demand returns more quickly than we currently expect".
