Spirit Airlines ‘not satisfied’ with 2Q2019 results, but ‘confident’ for 2020: CEO

Spirit Airlines CEO Edward Christie stated the carrer’s decision to increase utilisation of aircraft and crew held in reserve “reduced the buffer in the system to recover from adverse weather” in 2Q2019 (Skift, 24-Jul-2019). He noted the carrier was “over-aggressive” in its assumptions regarding weather, which he noted “exacerbated the level of flight disruptions” when paired with the airline’s operational changes. Mr Christie noted the carrier is “not satisfied” with its 2Q2019 results, but is “confident” planned “refinements” will “set us up well for 2020”. Adjustments will include changes to staffing reserves and future scheduling.
