Southwest Airlines to be more aggressive in Las Vegas, city represents an opportunity

22 February, 2018

Southwest Airlines chairman and CEO Gary Kelly stated the carrier will be more aggressive in pursuing customers attending conventions at Las Vegas, despite being "relatively new in that area" (Review Journal, 20-Feb-2018). Mr Kelly noted that while there are no present plans to launch Las Vegas-Hawaii service, the carrier could offer "very nice itineraries to and from Hawaii" due to the "great service" between California and Las Vegas. He said: "think that's definitely something to look forward to more in 2019 or 2020 as we continue to grow our presence in Hawaii". Las Vegas represents an opportunity, but "not a top priority right now". Southwest does not anticipate adding any more international destinations over the near term, with its focus centring on Hawaii.
