CAPA: Southwest Airlines calls for balance between social distancing and pricing levels

12 May, 2020

CAPA - Centre for Aviation, in a report entitled: 'COVID-19: Southwest Airlines: nuanced crisis management', stated (09-May-2020) airlines are faced with a problem as they seek to maintain social distancing measures while retaining reasonable pricing levels. Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly observed there will need to be a balance between these two necessary factors, as Southwest is unable to "burn USD900 million a month forever". The carrier continues to expect that revenues will decline in the near term, with revenue projected to fall between 90% and 95% in Apr/May-2020. [more - CAPA Analysis]
