Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) secretary Sally McManus addressed (16-Sep-2018) Qantas workers at Qantas’ global headquarters in Sydney on 17-Sep-2018. Employees call for Qantas’ board to reverse a decision to require an AUD2000 (USD1432) per employee bonus payment scheme be applied after the signing of new enterprise agreements, which “could be up to three years away”, according to the ACTU. As previously reported by CAPA, Qantas plans to pay out AUD67 million (USD48.0 million) in bonuses to staff.
oneworld appointed (18-Sep-2018) Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce as governing board chairman for a two year term. Mr Joyce succeeds Finnair CEO Pekka Vauramo, who is transitioning from the carrier to become Finland’s Metso Corporation CEO. Mr Joyce will be responsible for overseeing alliance governance and will work closely with oneworld CEO Rob Gurney and the central alliance team.
