Samoa Airways announced (30-Mar-2019) it is in final negotiations with Malindo Air to lease a Boeing 737-800 aircraft to operate services between Apia, Auckland, Sydney and Brisbane. Samoa Airways' existing lease with Neos expires on 31-Mar-2019. Samoa Airways CEO Tupuivao Seiuli Alvin Tuala stated: "Our lease with Neos couldn't be extended and with the global grounding of the MAX 8 aircraft, there is a huge worldwide shortage of narrowbody aircraft as airlines scramble to consolidate their schedules using their existing fleets and short term leases from other operators".
