Ryanair on Norwegian takeover speculation: 'we don't catch falling knives'

25 May, 2018

Ryanair responded to Norwegian CEO Bjorn Kjos' claims it is interested in acquiring Norwegian, stating: "There is no truth to these claims... We have not made an approach to Norwegian and we have no interest" (TTG Media/Reuters/Irish Independent, 24-May-2018). A Ryanair spokesperson added: "Our CEO [Michael O'Leary] has repeatedly said we believe NAS [Norwegian] will go bust as oil rises to USD80 a barrel and we don't catch falling knives". As previously reported by CAPA, Mr O'Leary said the rival LCC "will struggle to survive this winter [2018/2019]".
