Ryanair closed the Ryanair Holidays package holidays business two years after its launch in Dec-2016 (Irish Independent/Irish Times/RTE, 15-Jan-2019). Ryanair stated: "Going forward, it is no longer possible to book a package on Ryanair Holidays. However, all previous bookings are unaffected and will be fulfilled as planned". Commenting on the challenges of airlines entering the package holidays segment, Irish Travel Agents Association CEO Pat Dawson said there are major differences between selling airfares and selling holidays, adding: "Many other airlines have faced similar challenges when looking to develop package holiday operations in the past". As previously reported by CAPA, Ryanair's stated goal is to become the 'Amazon of travel' and to increase ancillary revenues to 30% of total revenue.
