Russia to help re-establish Cubana de Avianca's mostly grounded fleet in 2019

27 January, 2019

Russia's Deputy PM Yuri Borisov stated the Government will help to re establish Cubana de Aviacion's mostly grounded fleet in 2019 (presstv.com/Reuters, 26-Jan-2019). The carrier uses Russian and Ukrainian-made Ilyushin, Tupolev and Antonov, with US sanctions preventing it from purchasing aircraft with US components. Cubana cancelled most domestic services in 2018 because of a shortage of flightworthy and lease aircraft from other companies. Russian and Cuban officials signed written contracts at an intergovernmental commission meeting, addressing the various fleet repairs needed.
