Royal Brunei Airlines announced (18-Jan-2019) plans to commence four times weekly Brunei-Brisbane service with A320neo equipment on 11-Jun-2019. The service was secured through a partnership between Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) and Tourism Events Queensland, with the support of the Queensland Government's Attracting Aviation Investment Fund. Royal Brunei will be Brisbane Airport's 34th international airline and Brunei will be the airport's 33rd international destination. The service will add 62,400 seats p/a at Brisbane Airport and is expected to attract up to 30,000 visitors to Queensland. Queensland's Acting Tourism Industry Development Minister Di Farmer said: "This new service will allow us to welcome more tourists from the United Kingdom". BAC CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff said new long range narrowbody aircraft like the A320neo "make direct flights into Brisbane more viable than ever", which is "an opportunity we are working to expand on in the future".
