Queensland State Government Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones reported (06-Jul-2018) Tourism Research Australia‘s FY2016/17 Regional Tourism Satellite Accounts data shows the state’s tourism industry now employs almost 220,000 people and generates more than AUD25 billion (USD18.6 billion) for the state. Tourism employment grew more than 2% year-on-year in FY2016/17 and gross regional tourism product grew almost 4% state-wide. Ms Jones said the state government has a strategy to grow tourism to Queensland, which includes “working with operators to build new attractions and negotiating with airlines to secure more direct flights from key Asian tourism markets”.
