Queensland Government launches consultation on developing Cairns as Global Tourism Hub

Queensland's Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones announced (20-Dec-2017) the launch of a community consultation on the development of a 'Global Tourism Hub' for Cairns and Tropical North Queensland. The government will also engage with Cairns Regional Council and representatives from the tourism, property and development industries. Ms Jones said: "Cairns was identified as the first cab off the rank with the government's Global Tourism Hub policy - a plan to secure new investment in world-class tourism infrastructure across Queensland." The government identified the Cairns City Port precinct as a preferred site for the hub, which could include a casino and integrate with the state's project to expand the Cairns Convention Centre.
