Qantas to place ultra long range aircraft order in 2018, delivery in 2022

5 June, 2018

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce, speaking to Bloomberg on the sidelines of the IATA AGM and World Air Transport Summit, stated (04-Jun-2018) Qantas will place an order for ultra long range aircraft from Airbus or Boeing in 2018. The aircraft, which would be required to operate from Sydney to London or New York nonstop with a full payload, will be delivered in 2022, Mr Joyce said. So called Project Sunrise would put Rio de Janeiro, Cape Town, New York or Paris within direct reach of Australia's eastern seaboard, according to Qantas. Qantas International Airways CEO Alison Webster added: "All things are on the table as we work through the development phase".
