Qantas shareholding puts Alliance Aviation in a 'fairly difficult position': MD

25 February, 2019

Alliance Aviation Services managing director Scott McMillan said the move by Qantas Group to acquire a 19.9% stake in the carrier puts it in a "fairly difficult position" (The North West Star, 22-Feb-2019). According to Mr McMillan, Alliance Aviation is uncertain what is going to occur in relation to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's investigation into the purchase by Qantas, and the company already has a "very significant business relationship" with Qantas' domestic rival Virgin Australia Group. As previously reported by CAPA, Virgin Australia extended its wet lease agreement with Alliance Airlines on 18-Feb-2019, allowing Alliance to continue to operate regional services with Fokker regional jet equipment on behalf of Virgin Australia until the end of 2021.
