Qantas reports ‘strong uptake’ in regional Australia discounted airfares

Qantas reported (02-Nov-2018) it is in ongoing discussions with Australian regional airports and councils to reduce passenger fees to enable further savings to be passed on to residents. Qantas Domestic CEO Andrew David said the extension of its regional discount fare programme introduced in Dec-2017 is part of ongoing efforts to improve access to remote cities and increase airfare affordability. The carrier has seen a “strong uptake” in discounted fares and has adapted the programme to facilitate access to the fares, Mr David said. Qantas reported it contributed more than AUD5 billion (USD3.6 billion) to the economy in regional Australia in FY2017 and supported more than 40,000 jobs.
