Qantas names third 787-9 'Quokka'

11 January, 2018

Qantas named (12-Jan-2018) its third Boeing 787-9 (VH-ZNC) after the quokka. Quokka was among the most popular suggestions in a national poll of more than 60,000 entries to name eight 787s. Qantas International CEO Alison Webster stated: "Our direct flights between Europe and Australia start in March, so naming our third Dreamliner after a native animal unique to WA seems very fitting". The aircraft will operate Perth-London service and routes to the US. The aircraft is undergoing final delivery in Seattle and is expected to land in Australia in late Jan-2018. Quokka will be joined by a 787 called Skippy later in 2018. Qantas' first two 787 aircraft are named Great Southern Land and Waltzing Matilda. The sequencing of the remaining names will be revealed as the aircraft are delivered. [more - original PR]
